ICW21AT From: KD5OB@F6CNB.#SETX.TX.USA.NA Enabling Wide Band Receive in the Icom W21AT HT (NOTE: I got this info from a message on CompuServe's HamNet but found it a little "fuzzy" with a few important things missing. I have added what I found works for me and another ham with the same HT.) Unlocking the CPU: 1. With radio OFF - press the "B" and "#" buttons while turning it on. 2. Everything on the LCD display will light up for about one second. 3. VERY IMPORTANT -->> Keep the "B" and "#" buttons pressed until the LCD display returns to normal. 4. Now press Function+Set and look for: "1" "1" "PL" 5. Turn the VFO tuning knob on top of the HT until both numbers change to "100" this gives you wide band receive with 6 digit frequency entry. 6. You now press "CLR" to make the new settings take effect. While in VFO mode on either band you now just enter the desired frequency directly. You must enter all six digits before you see a decimal point appear. e.g. 162550 would give you 162.55 for the NWS weather freq. The last digit entered must be either a "5" or a "0" To monitor cellular frequencies you must switch to the UHF VFO. Try entering "780000" you should see 780.00 on the display Now press the Scan up button and let it start scanning up through the cell-tel frequencies until you find something to listen to. It is also a good idea to set your tuning step to 30KHz as this is the channel spacing for cellular frequencies. Press Function+TS and rotate VFO knob until you see "30". Press either the PTT or "CLR" button and start scanning !! REMEMBER: You can monitor cellular frequencies but you can NOT divulge any information you hear there to third parties. (Federal law)... P.S. The gray rubber antenna that comes with the IC-W21AT is a real piece of garbage. Try using almost any other "good" dual band duck instead of Icom's antenna. I wonder if the fact that the original equipment antenna resembles a rectal probe means anything ?? 73, Steve N4WAK
